Anisotropic Strength

Topology Optimization for Anisotropic Strength

Framework for stiffness and strength based topology optimization under additive manufacturing constraints. Failure measures are evaluated using von Mises and Tsai Wu criteria to account for build direction dependent weakness. Experimental results show that designs optimized with the Tsai Wu criterion achieve a maximum load of 801.5 N compared to 491.1 N for compliance based optimization (63% improvement) and 116.1 N compared to 69.3 N for von Mises based optimization (67% improvement).
